Consumer Unit Changes

Consumer unit replacement and fuse box upgrades for homes, landlords and businesses in Nottingham.

What is a consumer unit?

The consumer unit—often called a fuse box—is the control point for a property’s electrical circuits. It contains protective devices that switch off the electricity when a fault is detected, helping to reduce the risk of electric shock or fire.

Why might it need replacing?

  • The unit still uses old-style rewireable fuses.

  • There is limited or no RCD protection for the circuits.

  • The casing or internal parts show heat damage, cracking or deterioration.

  • A renovation, new circuit or EICR has highlighted the need for an upgrade.

What does the work involve?

  • The existing unit and circuits are assessed before work begins.

  • The supply is safely isolated and the old unit is removed.

  • A suitable modern consumer unit and protective devices are installed.

  • Circuits are tested, labelled and certification is provided.

What can you expect?

We explain the planned work, likely disruption and any issues found during testing. A correctly selected and installed consumer unit provides modern protection and clearer control of the electrical installation. Work is completed to BS 7671 requirements.
